Casa Esther Catholic Worker Seeks House Manager / Couple

We are seeking an individual or couple as live-in volunteers to propel our mission forward.

The Casa Esther Catholic Worker House is situated in Omro, Wisconsin, 10 miles west of Oshkosh. As a Catholic Worker House we organize our work into 3 Pillars: House of Hospitality (primarily, a busy Basic Needs Distribution/ rental assistance program), Roundtable Discussions (primarily non-violence webinars in collaboration with Pax Christi) and Connection with Nature (primarily the maintenance of a large garden and garden education program with local youth). Details of our programs and activities are available at https://www.casaesther.org/ and https://www.facebook.com/CasaEstherOmro  We consider our space a place of healing and prayer and we look to the Catholic Worker Aims and Means for guidance.

Our service area of support for our Basic Needs Distribution program includes Omro, Oshkosh and the entire Winnebago Couty area. We collaborate with many area social services organizations and agencies.

Our activities are accomplished by Founder and Spiritual Director Father “Joe” Mattern, our part-time Executive Director, a part-time Administrative Assistant and numerous volunteers. We are an IRS-designated 501c3 charity and governed by a Board of Directors. Our Founder lives at the House.

We imagine that this position might be a good fit for someone who is currently in a bustling, urban CW House that could use a “quieter” experience. Our work involves heavy collaboration with local non-profits and County governmental organizations, so a comfort level with our 501c3 status is a must. We are currently involved in trying to bring a Safe Parking program to Winnebago County, so any experience with that type of program would be a great asset.

Position Description:

  • Assist in Basic Needs Distribution program and other operational needs at the direction of the Executive Director.

  • Assist with facility operation, maintenance and cleaning.

  • Complete simple home repairs, when necessary and possible.

  • Support our Founder and Spiritual Director needs.

  • Participate in our Peter Maurin garden activities.

  • Assure the facility is locked and safe.

  • Provide first aid, when necessary and possible.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

  • Other possible duties:

    • Assist with social media presence.

    • Contribute to website maintenance.

Desired Skills:

  • A willing heart to make a 1-year commitment to engage in all aspects of our Mission.

  • An interest in social justice action.

  • The ability to live in a group-house setting with an attitude of loving cooperation and support, and without judgment or bias.

  • Spanish language fluency a plus but not required.

Please contact us by email (sara@casaesther.org) or phone (920-202-0111) for further details. If you feel called to serve, we would love to hear from you.
